Dr Derek O’Sullivan grew up in Brisbane, Queensland and has lived locally since 1984. He graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Queensland in 1983. Dr O’Sullivan’s experience of growing up was shaped by his family’s history of looking after people. As the son of a country GP this culture of caring is deeply ingrained. He initially planned to study medicine, but become fascinated by his elder brother’s experiences of training to become a dentist. Dr Sullivan particularly likes the way dentistry is able to uniquely blend a number of different abilities, including clinical, scientific, technical and academic skills while a great deal of artistry is required to create a beautiful smile.
Dr O’Sullivan considers himself to be a “Physician of the Face” and over the years he has learned from some of the best clinicians in the world, developing his knowledge and skills so he is able to diagnose, interact and treat people in a holistic manner. He loves being able to get to know people and their families so he can help them achieve optimal dental health outcomes.
Dr O’Sullivan has three children and his interests include sports and fitness, music and travel and reading.
Dr Richard Finney grew up in Brisbane and graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Queensland in 1984. He is a dentist at The Dental Group’s Dingley and Hampton practices, having worked in Dingley since 1985 and in Hampton since the practice began in 1999.
After graduating, Dr Finney spent the first five to ten years of his career in post graduate education, completing additional training in intravenous sedation, orthodontics and in prosthodontics and dental aesthetics. Dr Finney is a member of the Australian Society of Dental Anaesthesiology and is trained to administer relative analgesia and intravenous sedation. He was granted full membership of the Australian Society for Dental Anaesthesia in 1999, having completed all the relevant examinations. He is an active member of the International Association of Orthodontics and is a member of the International Team for Implantology.
Dr Finney is also a founding member of the Australian Association of Dental Aesthetics. Orofacial orthopaedics is a particular passion of Dr Finney’s and he is a founding member of the Australian Association of Orofacial Orthopaedics, an organisation that was created to help educate general dentists and he is active in ensuring many world renowned specialists in orthodontics visit Australia.
Over the thirty years Dr Finney has been working for The Dental Group, he has helped to shape the practices core values, focusing on preventative dentistry and on educating patients and empowering them to take control of their dental health. Dr Finney is interested in Early Interceptive Full Face Orthopaedics and in implantology and cosmetic dentistry. One of the things Dr Finney enjoys about dentistry is being able to treat and improve a person’s dental health and knowing how this will help improve their general health, not to mention boosting their self-confidence and self-esteem.
Outside of dentistry, Dr Finney is a father of three and is actively involved in the local sailing community and is on numerous committees associated with this sport. He also enjoys gardening and is a dog lover.
Dr Tang is proudly trained at The University of Melbourne and graduated with honors in 1997. In his final year, he was ranked fifth in the entire class for academic and clinical performance and was also awarded the Mervyn Townsend Orthodontic prize. Dr Tang has continued his drive for learning by attending regular continuing education courses. He has successfully incorporated many innovative and cutting edge treatment modalities in his day to day practice, such as Invisalign®; Inman Aligners®; MDI® Mini Dental Implants; NiTi Rotary Endodontics; interceptive functional orthopeadics and orthodontics for children; full ceramic bonded restorations and advanced composite fillings.
Most importantly Dr Tang is passionate about his dentistry and takes pride in the quality and accuracy of the treatment he provides. He appreciates the fact that dentistry blends art and science and requires close attention to detail. Clients looked after by Dr Tang can rest assured that their dental care is in safe, careful and steady hands. Treatment is never rushed and successful and satisfactory clinical outcomes are always strived for 100% all the time. He has a strong belief in treating his clients with compassion and respect as if they were his own family.
Dr. Tang is also meticulous and thoughtful with his treatment planning and will customize treatment options; sequencing and priorities to suit individual needs and budget. He is known to often ‘think outside the box’ when approaching challenging and unique cases.
Dr. Tang has been practicing in the Dingley locality for the past 16 years. He certainly enjoys having the opportunities to build up long term relationships with the local and not so local patients and their families and assisting them to attain optimal dental health for life.
Besides dentistry, Dr. Tang enjoys Karate; tinkering with his hobby car; motorsports; general fitness; movies and being father to his three lovely children.
Dr Kotaro Kubo grew up in Osaka, Japan and has lived locally since 2010. Dr Kubo graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Melbourne in 2004 and his clinical interests include orthodontics, endodontics and restorative dentistry. One thing Kotaro particularly enjoys about dentistry is the satisfaction of being able to restore a person’s teeth so they can smile and eat comfortably. Kotaro also greatly enjoys building up a rapport with patients and in teaching them the value of preventative dentistry in maintaining good dental health. As a father of two young children, he also enjoys chatting about child education. Outside of dentistry, his interests include music and travel and he enjoys shopping.
