Why Might I Need a Filling?

Fillings repair teeth that have been damaged through trauma or decay. They replace any missing tooth structure, restoring strength and structure to the tooth so it looks and feels natural. A filling will also protect the tooth against further damage by sealing it so bacteria in the mouth cannot enter.

How is a Filling Placed?

Treatment is very straightforward and is normally carried out under a local anaesthetic to keep you completely comfortable. Your dentist will prepare the tooth by removing any decayed tooth structure. The prepared cavity will be thoroughly cleaned and dried before the filling material is placed in small increments. The filling will be hardened or cured with a special light before being shaped and polished. It will closely match your natural tooth colour so the final result should be virtually invisible.

Can I Eat and Drink Straight After Having a Filling?

Yes you can, but please take care as you will still be numb from the local anaesthetic. It can be better to wait until this has completely worn off.
