What is a Regular Examination?
We will thoroughly examine the inside of your mouth, checking all the tooth surfaces, as well as the condition of your gums. This is to check for any signs of cavities so these teeth can be filled before the decay progresses. Early detection of cavities helps to preserve your teeth and greatly reduces your chances of developing a tooth infection or abscess which can be very painful. Good gum health is essential as your gums hold your teeth in position. Unfortunately gum disease is incredibly common, but if caught early enough can be completely eradicated, before it can cause permanent damage.
Oral Cancer Screenings
During your examinations, we will regularly screen you for oral cancer which can affect the soft tissues in your mouth including your cheeks, lips and tongue. This screening only takes a couple of minutes and is very non-invasive. Oral cancer is becoming more prevalent and an early diagnosis greatly improves the prognosis.
How Often Should I Have a Regular Examination?
Most people will need to visit Dental Expressions every six months. If we feel you would benefit from more frequent visits then we can discuss this with you. This might be the case for pregnant women, or for someone with other health issues that are affecting their dental health.
